GitHub Actions has unveiled M2 Pro-powered hosted runners in public preview, marking a significant upgrade for developers. The new macOS XLarge runners feature a 5-core CPU, 8-core GPU, 14 GB of RAM, and 14 GB of storage, delivering up to 15% faster build times compared to previous M1 models.
Developers must update their workflow YAML files to specify labels like 'macos-latest-xlarge' or 'macos-15-xlarge' to access the new hardware. Notably, GitHub has discontinued the 6-core M1 macOS larger runner, requiring users to transition to the M2 Pro configuration.
Despite the performance boost, GitHub maintains its existing pricing structure, making this upgrade a cost-effective solution for Apple developers seeking enhanced efficiency in their CI/CD pipelines.
